TRACECA transport corridor for the first time included ensuring ecological safety of the Black and Caspian seas in the project implemented in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Ukraine, Akif Mustafayev, TRACECA's Azerbaijan national secretary, told Trend today.

Oct.18-22 representatives of national sea administrations, ministries of ecology and natural resources, ministries of emergency situations, leaderships of ports and maritime training institutions of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Ukraine hold training for economic, technical and legal aspects of the EU-funded TRACECA Transport Project "Development of Maritime Safety Management and Ship Pollution Prevention for the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea".

"At present, the Caspian Sea, as well as the Black Sea is being contaminated as a result of growing volume of shipping operations, and it is necessary to ensure protection of these seas," Mustafayev said.

According to him, TRACECA will take into account ecological aspects in the future projects as well.

At present, TRACECA member-states are Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkey, Ukraine, Turkmenistan, Iran.
