Ecology Ministry: Water content of rivers increased in Azerbaijan

The water content of mountain rivers in Azerbaijan has been recently increased due to melting of snow and torrential rains, spokesman for the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Irada Ibrahimova told Trend.

The water content of mountain rivers in Azerbaijan has been recently increased due to melting of snow and torrential rains, spokesman for the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Irada Ibrahimova told Trend.

"At present, the level of flood in mountain rivers is increasing. The highest level of flood was fixed in the rivers of the Big Caucasus in Balaken-Sheki region - 240-270 percent of the ten-day norm, in the rivers of the Small Caucasus - 150-160 percent, Lankaran-Astara region - 95 -150 percent, the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic - 55-180 percent, " she said.

She said that water flow rate was 80 percent of a ten-day norm in Girahkesemen point of transboundary Kura River, 76 percent in Ayrichay point of Ganikh river.

She said that the level of water is being reduced in the lower reaches of the Kura river.

The water level in the lower reaches of the Kura river is lower by 106-200 cm than in 2010.
