The traffic accidents killed 260 people and injured 1,045 in Azerbaijan in 2011, Baku State Traffic Police Department spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Vagif Asadov said.
Azerbaijan recorded 952 traffic accidents in January-April 2011, 500 of which fell to Baku.
The traffic accidents occurred in Baku killed 115 people and injured 522.
The country recorded 2,721 traffic accidents in 2010, 1,119 of which fell to Baku. The traffic accidents occurred in Baku killed 342 people and injured 1,115 then.
The traffic accidents registered in the republic mainly caused by the following: 42.3 percent - high speed, 23.6 percent - overtaking and exit into the oncoming lane, 7.4 percent - violations of the rules roundabouts and 2.4 percent - drunk driving.
