Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov signed a decree "On the citizenship of Turkmenistan."
"Being guided by the principles of humanism and ancestral virtues, confirming our adherence to universally recognized international norms of protection of human rights and freedoms, and respecting the right to the free choice of citizenship, the President issued the Decree authorizing the granting of Turkmenistan citizenship to stateless persons who reside permanently on the territory of Turkmenistan, according to the list," the local media reported.
The Decree requires the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, Interior Ministry, and the State Migration Service, in cooperation with the relevant ministries and departments, to continue work on preparation of documents for stateless persons applying for the acquisition of Turkmen citizenship in accordance with established procedures.
The relevant proposals must be submitted to the President for consideration within three months.
