The procedures for adopting a child for a stepparent or close relatives who are citizens of Azerbaijan must be simplified, Justice Ministry official Subhi Kazimov said this week.
The adoption procedures must be simplified compared to the procedures used for other foreigners, he said.
Kazimov thinks it important to make legislative changes to simplify and to improve the activity of the guardianship and custody bodies and to expand the ties of these bodies with the State Committee for Family, Women and Children.
He said that last year the courts considered ten claims on adoption of children by foreigners, seven of which were met, one denied, one was not considered at all and one was returned back.
The participation of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children was ensured while considering two cases.
Kazimov said that while considering the cases, the courts must ensure the participation of the committee in the process.
