Eurovision enabled Azerbaijan to showcase its potential, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev believes.

"Azerbaijan as any country in the world tries to provide detailed information about itself to the international community, and the Eurovision Song Contest has become a good opportunity for Azerbaijan in this sense," Abdullayev told Trend.

He said most of the guests visited Azerbaijan for the first time, have witnessed the rapid development of the country and got acquainted with its rich culture and history. In addition, Azerbaijan's guests felt hospitality of Azerbaijani people, he said.

According to Abdullayev, holding the contest in Azerbaijan created a good opportunity to attract tourists to the country in the future. "Guests of Baku will talk about this wonderful country - Azerbaijan after returning to their home countries, which will lead to a growth in tourist flow in the future," he added.

The contest is being held at the Baku Crystal Hall, built on the coast of the Caspian Sea specifically for Eurovision-2012.

The television audience of Eurovision 2012 is more than 100 million people in 50 world countries.

Azerbaijan won the right to host the prestigious European song contest after the victory of Eldar Gasimov and Nigar Jamal (Ell / Nikki) at Eurovision 2011 in Dusseldorf, Germany last May.
