A meeting with representatives of the Central of European Research for Nuclear (CERN) was held, on December 5, 2006, at the Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, Trend reports.
Doctor of Technical Sciences Arif Hashimov, Director of the Institute, greeted the guests and noted the aim of his meeting. It is to develop cooperation on nuclear physics between the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and CERN, to amplify perspectives of joint works for the future. Azerbaijan is one of the member-states in this international organization. Mr .Hashimov informed about the signed agreement between Azerbaijan and the Centre at the state level. Peter Jany said that nearly 7,500 scientists work in this organization and they are busy with fundamental science.
Jonathan Ellis, a well-known theorist-physicist, colleague of CERN for international cooperation, Dr. Nikolas Kolberg, Chief of the Department on International Problems of CERN, Nikolay Rusakovich, Head Scientific Secretary of the United Nuclear Research Institute (UNRI) made their reports.
Mikhail Itkis, Vice-Director of UNRI and Victor Katrasev, Action Director for the financial-economical work of UNRI took part at the meeting. The guests also visited with the post-graduate students of the Institute.
