Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry talks on new subsidies for farmers

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 13

Trend:

The new subsidy mechanism will further stimulate the development of agriculture in Azerbaijan, Deputy Agriculture Minister Ilham Guliyev said at meetings on the application of the Electronic Information Agricultural System in Neftchala and Hajigabul districts, Trend reports referring to the Agriculture Ministry Dec. 13.

By setting the coefficient and quotas for sowing subsidies, products and seeds, the Council of Agricultural Subsidies relied on ensuring food safety and increasing the export potential of agricultural products, the deputy minister noted.

Guliyev added that the council has already identified the coefficients.

“Farmers will receive subsidies for growing cotton - both for sowing and for production,” the deputy minister said.

“A coefficient of 1.1 is set for cotton, which means that for every hectare on which cotton is planted, farmers will receive a subsidy of 220 manat ($129.6),” Guliyev noted. “In addition, for every ton delivered to state reception centers farmers will get 100 manat ($58.9). That is, if a farmer collects an average of 30 centners of cotton from one hectare, he or she will receive 520 manat ($306.5) in subsidies from the state.”

The deputy minister added that since 2020, agricultural subsidies will be provided through the Electronic Information Agricultural System.

“Paper circulation in the provision of agricultural subsidies is already being eliminated,” Guliyev said. “After registering in the new system, the farmer must open a 'personal cabinet'. More than 410,000 farmers have passed registration.”

Representatives of the Office of the Ministry of Agriculture conduct field sessions in the regions to raise awareness among farmers on the use of the electronic information agricultural system.

Such sessions have already been held in 36 districts with the participation of senior officials of the ministry, heads of executive structures, representatives of state centers for agricultural development, agricultural development volunteers, chairpersons of municipalities and farmers.

On Dec. 13-14, similar meetings are planned to be held in Azerbaijan’s Gobustan, Ismayilli, Gabala, Oguz, Balakan, Zagatala, Gakh and Sheki districts.
