Azerbaijan to prioritize 'green' technologies for 'smart' projects in liberated areas

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb.9

By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:

The priority task of Azerbaijan in the implementation of ‘smart’ projects is the use of ‘green’ technologies, Ilgar Valizade, head of the South Caucasus Club of Political Analysts, told Trend on Feb.9.

"Before starting the implementation of smart city and smart village projects, it’s necessary to create an appropriate fiber-optic network to cover the liberated (from Armenian occupation during the 44-day war from late Sept. through early Nov.2020) territories of Azerbaijan with an Internet connection and provide these regions with uninterrupted electricity through the construction of new or reconstruction of old power plants," Valizade said.

He noted that in the production of electricity, first of all, one should take into account its generation through wind and solar power plants.

According to experts, the resources of the liberated territories allow producing about 5,000 megawatts of electricity only through wind farms.

"Several hundred megawatts of electricity can be produced as a result of the use of water resources. A large number of sunny days allow creating capacities in the field of solar energy," the analyst pointed out.

Besides, the analyst also noted the popularity of technologies that allow the production of electricity in households.

"The provision of uninterrupted supply of electricity and Internet services is the basis for the implementing the smart city and smart village projects," added Valizade.
