Trams, trolleybuses can reduce traffic load in Baku - expert

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr.2

By Samir Ali – Trend:

The optimal way to eliminate traffic jams in Baku is to launch work of trams and trolleybuses after installing respective lines, expert for transport Arshad Huseynov told Trend on Apr.2.

According to Huseynov, use of the vehicles can decrease traffic load in the capital streets.

“It would be good if we could develop all types of public transport, expand the number and quality of services provided in this sector,” he said. “That is, along with the installation of tram and trolleybus lines, it’s also important to do work to ensure comfort. In this case, the population will use less often private transport, which, as a result, will lead to a decrease in traffic on the capital streets," Huseynov said.

Speaking about the movement across the Caspian Sea through Baku Bay, the expert noted that such a decision won’t be effective in the context of removing the jams.

"For example, by means of a kind of ‘sea taxi’ it will be possible to move from Ahmadli and Zigh settlements (adjacent to Baku) towards the Baku Boulevard or the Bayil area. However, this will eliminate traffic jams only in those territories, but won’t change the situation in other areas of the city. At the same time, a passenger wanting to use the services of such ‘sea taxi’ will have to use an alternative mode of transport to arrive at the port or travel to another point of the city. Therefore, I don’t think that this route will be popular," added Huseynov.
