The military-political crisis around Russia and Ukraine, as well as tough sanctions imposed by Western countries against Russia, will have a negative impact on the economies of the former Soviet countries, Chairman of the Public Association for the Study of Economic Resources (SER), UNEC Professor Ruslan Atakishiyev said at the author's video project “Actual with Sahil Karimli” developed by Trend News Agency.
"The Azerbaijani economy is based on a solid foundation. It has grown stronger through the diversification carried out in recent years. All these factors indicate that external economic shocks will not have a significant impact on the Azerbaijani economy," he said.
In his opinion, military-political upheavals in the region, as well as mutual severe sanctions by major powers, will lead to very serious changes in the global economy.
"Sanctions are reciprocal and have a boomerang effect. The economies of countries taking sanctions will also suffer. In general, the world economy is moving towards a new polarization, new orders and realities are emerging," Atakishiyev said.
The chairman noted that the economic reforms and large projects implemented by the Government of Azerbaijan in recent years were very important for the future of our country.
"We are optimistic prospects as to the future. The forecasts are positive, and the upheavals in the world do not pose a serious threat to Azerbaijan. These processes significantly increase the importance of the Zangazur corridor. The economic and political gap between East and West, the paralysis of trade relations between the conflicting countries actualize Azerbaijan's transit opportunities. In this regard, the potential and importance of the Zangazur corridor is growing, which means incredible economic dividends not only for Azerbaijan but also for other interested countries. Of course, all these realities are the result of a thoughtful, far-sighted policy of the Azerbaijani state," he added.
