BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 12. Retail trade turnover increased by 2.9 percent and reached 20.8 billion manat ($12.2 billion) from January through May 2023 compared to the same period in 2022 in Azerbaijan, Trend reports.

According to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, the turnover of food, beverages and tobacco products increased by 2 percent (up to 12 billion manat or $7 billion), non-food products - by 4.1 percent (up to 8.8 billion manat or $5.1 billion).

The population has spent 52.9 percent of funds on the purchase of food products, 4.7 percent on beverages and tobacco products, 12.7 percent on textiles, clothing and footwear, 5.7 percent on motor fuel, 4.4 percent on electrical goods and furniture, 2.5 percent on pharmaceutical goods and medicines, one percent - for computers, 16.1 percent - for other non-food products from January through May 2023.

The cost of goods sold by economic entities of the non-state sector increased by 2.9 percent and amounted to 99.7 percent of the total retail trade turnover during the reporting period compared to the period from January through May 2022.

Retail trade turnover in real terms increased by 0.4 percent for enterprises, by 3.6 percent for markets and fairs, for individual entrepreneurs - by 4 percent from January through May compared to the same period last year.

The average monthly turnover of retail trade in Azerbaijan per capita amounted to 409.7 manat ($241), including the turnover of food, beverages and tobacco products - 235.8 manat ($138.7), non–food products - 173.9 manat ($102.2).
