BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 3. Italy supports the need to improve water management and exploit the links between water and agricultural development, Ambassador of Italy to Azerbaijan Luca di Gianfrancesco said, Trend reports.
He made the remark during the international symposium "Sustainability and Innovation in Agriculture and Water Management in the Light of COP29" at ADA University today.
"It's essential to support agricultural growth by making more effective use of water resource infrastructure as a key objective for effectively addressing the issues of global warming and climate change," he pointed out.
The ambassador mentioned that over the past three years, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation has overseen 140 projects worldwide related to water resources, amounting to approximately 465 million euro.
"Furthermore, in line with its long-standing commitment to a multilateral approach, Italy strongly supports a more comprehensive and coordinated strategy, particularly within the framework of UN program networks, including support for UNESCO's program on assessing global water resources," he added.
To note, the symposium is being held in collaboration with the embassies of Hungary, Italy, and Kazakhstan in Azerbaijan.
The event, involving scientists as well as local and foreign experts, covers global and regional perspectives, with a particular focus on the impact of climate change.
