Autumn Sowing Implemented in 630,000 Hectares in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 26 November / Trend , corr. S.Babayeva / In accordance with the information of the Azerbaijani State Comittee on Statistics, the autumn sowing of grains was implemented in 630,000 hectares. Some 453,600 hectares of land was sowed with grains and 177,000 hectares- barley.

On 18 October, the sowed area in Shaki made up 46,000 hectares, in Jalilabad- 38,500 hectares and in Nefchala - 30,000 hectares.

According to the forecasts of the Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry the production of grains in 2009 will comprise not less than 2mln tons.

In 2008, the production of cereal and grain- bean crops (including corn) reached 2.5mln tons, it is more by 492,000 tons in comparison with the index of 2007. The planted area of grains in the country was 894,030 hectares.

Productivity to each hectare was 27.9 centners, it is more by 0.8 centners, than in the past year. From the general production of 1.7mln tons (68.7 percent) was necessary in the portion of autumn and spring wheat.

Annual grain demand in Azerbaijan is 3mln tons, with 1.5mln tons of bread grain. The Ministry forecasts to completely cover the internal need for the grain due to the local production.
