The Azerbaijani State Customs Committee submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers proposals on improvement of customs tariffs on import commodities, the committee said on July 27.

Proposals generally envisage improving customs tariff mechanism, liquidating insignificant privileges, concretizing definite directions to determine privileges and recommendations on transition from the multistage state duty system for commodity import (to small staged, the committee said.

The committee proposed transition from the current multistage state duty system for commodity import 0-0.5,-1-3-5-10-15 percents to small staged 0-5-15 percents, head of the Customs Committee Aydin Aliyev said.

These proposals were made as part of improvement of customs procedures and there is no need to connect them to the Azerbaijani obligations under joining the World Trade Organization (WTO), Aliyev said.
