Iranian experts have succeeded in manufacturing a wellhead system for oil and gas platforms, IRNA quoted Managing Director of the Preserve Iran-Kish Company, Gholamhossein Aliverdi as saying.

The system is used to curb firing in oil and gas wells and shut caps in emergencies, he said adding that it is able to have control over 15 oil and gas wells simultaneously.

Previously, just the U.S., Britain, Singapore and the UAE held the technology for manufacturing the system, he noted. The cost for using the system domestically is 40 per cent less than importing it, he added.

In June, Iran's ex-Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi warned all Iranian contractors to avoid importing equipment that is currently being produced domestically.

All those contractors who ignore the warning will be omitted from the list of oil ministry's contractors, the Mehr News Agency quoted Qasemi as saying.

Even if the prices of Iranian-made equipment are slightly higher, the contractors should purchase home produced goods, he underscored.

This comes as Chinese equipment has been largely imported for carrying out different oil and gas projects.

Iran's oil, gas and petrochemical contractors annually purchase 30 billion dollars' worth of equipment. Last year the amount faced a 50 per cent fall to 15 billion dollars.

Iranian-made equipment accounted for five billion dollars of the aforementioned amount, while foreign goods especially Chinese equipment, accounted for the rest.
