Kazakhstan plans to produce 23,400 metric tons of uranium in 2015, head of Kazakh National Atomic Company Kazatomprom Nurlan Kapparov said

Kazakhstan plans to produce 23,400 metric tons of uranium in 2015, head of Kazakh National Atomic Company Kazatomprom Nurlan Kapparov said, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported.

Moreover, Kapparov noted, that the company is facing current unstable uranium prices and have to reduce uranium production costs, learn the technologies for rare metals production and bring the cost of Kazakhstani photovoltaic modules production to a competitive level in 2015.

Kazakhstan produced 22, 829 metric tons on uranium in 2014 compared to 22, 500 metric tons in 2013.

Kazatomprom JSC is the national operator of Kazakhstan for the export of uranium and uranium compounds, rare metals, nuclear fuel for nuclear power plants, special equipment, technologies and materials with dual purposes.
Its main activities are geological exploration, extraction of uranium, manufacturing of products involved in the nuclear fuel cycle and construction materials as well as power industry, science, social security and personnel training.
