US companies eyeing participation in East-West project

Baku, Azerbaijan, May 11

The US companies are interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan in the transportation sector, in particular on the East-West multimodal corridor, the US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Robert Cekuta told reporters in Baku May 11.

The American companies have achieved great success in construction in the transportation sector and in creating software for that sector, he said, adding that those companies are ready to assist Azerbaijan and participate in the projects in both areas.

The ambassador, who took part in the 15th Anniversary International Transport, Transit and Logistics Exhibition and the 4th Caspian International Road Infrastructure and Public Transport Exhibition in Baku, said the exhibitions are another proof of economic diversification and development of Azerbaijan.

Cekuta also said the US company Wavetronix, specializing in the intelligent transport management, is also participating in the exhibitions.

Cooperation between the US and Azerbaijan in this area is a very important factor, added the ambassador.

The US is very happy to continue the cooperation in this area, said Cekuta.

Development of the East-West corridor envisages the further implementation of the TRACECA (Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia) mega-project's long-term strategy regarding the economic relations, trade and transportation in Europe, Black Sea, Caucasus, the Caspian region and Asia.

TRACECA is an international transportation cooperation program between the EU and partner countries in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia.

The organization has a permanent secretariat in Baku.

TRACECA member states are Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Iran.
