Kazakhstan’s exports key driver of trade with Japan

Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Japan increased by 17 percent in 2017, while Kazakhstan’s trade turnover with Asian countries, in the same period, increased by 34.9 percent.

Japan's share of Kazakhstan's total commodity turnover, despite the growth in volumes, declined from 1.8 to 1.7 percent, Energy Prom reported.

The growth of trade with Japan is mainly due to strengthening of Kazakhstan's exports to Japan, which increased by 58.6 percent in 2017.

Kazakhstan’s import of Japanese products, in contrary, decreased by 25.1 percent.

The key export commodities of Kazakhstan to the Japanese market in 2017 included ferro-alloys (worth $534.3 million), oil and oil products (worth $339.4 million), which accounted for 98.6 percent of Kazakh exports to Japan.

Kazakhstan mainly imports products of the Japanese automotive industry and special machinery, including cars (worth $164.4 million), bulldozers, graders and other special vehicles (worth $47.3 million), medical devices (worth $19.6 million), trucks (worth $12.1 million), as well as tires (worth $11.7 million).
