By Leman Zeynalova - Trend:

France’s Alstom is ready to support Azerbaijan Railways with supply of new locomotives for International North–South Transport Corridor, the company told Trend.

“Alstom sees the long term perspectives of cooperation with Azerbaijan Railways. The warranty of last locomotive will end in 2023,” said the company.

Alstom said it has already started the negotiations on Maintenance Contract with Azerbaijan Railways.

“Alstom is ready to support Azerbaijan Railways with supply of new locomotives for North-South line. Alstom is interested in signaling projects in Azerbaijan: completion of East-West signaling and signaling of North-South,” said the company.

Earlier, the company told Trend that it will deliver the first contracted freight locomotive for the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway to Azerbaijan in the second half of December 2018.

Alstom and Azerbaijan Railways plan to start the preparation for testing in Azerbaijan in January 2019, according to the French rail giant.

Founded in 1928, Alstom develops and markets systems, equipment and services for the transport sector. The company offers a complete range of solutions (from high-speed trains to metros, tramways and e-buses), passenger solutions, customized services (maintenance, modernization), infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility solutions.

The official opening ceremony of the BTK railway was held in Baku Oct. 30 last year. The BTK railway was constructed on the basis a Georgian-Azerbaijani-Turkish intergovernmental agreement.

The railway’s peak capacity will be 17 million tons of cargo per year. At an initial stage, this figure will be one million passengers and 6.5 million tons of cargo.
