Azerbaijan's silkworm cocoon production hits record

In January-November 2018, 514 tons of silkworm cocoons were produced in Azerbaijan, which is 2.1 times more than last year, Trend reports referring to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee.

This is the highest indicator of silkworm cocoon production in Azerbaijan for the past 20 years.

In total, the agricultural output value stood at 6.6 billion manats in Azerbaijan in January-November 2018, which is by almost 4.6 percent more than in the same period last year.

In the reported period, plant growing increased by 6.6 percent (to 3.1 billion manats), while livestock production rose by 2.7 percent (to 3.5 billion manats).

Harvest ended in Azerbaijan during the reporting period. At the beginning of December, more than 3.06 million tons of grain and legumes (excluding corn) were harvested. In addition, during the period, 226,800 tons of corn were harvested from 31,700 hectares.

Besides, 889,400 tons of potatoes, 1,446,600 tons of vegetables (a 5.6 percent growth for the year), 401,600 tons of melons (a decrease of 8.2 percent), 998,400 tons of fruits and berries (a 8.1 percent growth), 154,800 tons of grapes (a 6.2 percent growth), 868,600 tons of tea leaves (an increase of 12.5 percent), 5,700 tons of tobacco (an increase of 13.3 percent) and 24,200 tons of sunflower (decrease of 19.3 percent) were harvested in January-November 2018.

Besides, 463,600 tons of meat, 1.899 million tons of milk, 1,534.7 million eggs and 15,700 tons of wool were produced in Azerbaijan in January-November 2018.

Compared to January-November 2017, production of meat grew 3 percent, milk production rose 2.8 percent, while egg production fell by 1.9 percent and wool production fell by 1.2 percent.
