During this Iranian year (began March 21, 2019), 512,000 tons of cement have been exported to Central Asia countries by rail in Sarakhs city of Iran’s Razavi Khorasan province, said Director General of the Razavi Khorasan Railway Office Mostafa Naseri Varg, Trend reports via IRNA.
Varg said that 75 percent of cement was exported to Uzbekistan and the rest to Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
A total of 683,000 tons of products were exported via the Sarakhs railway border, the director general noted, adding that in general, to date, 808,000 tons of products were exported by rail in Iran and 70 percent of them accounted for cement.
“About 85 percent of Iran’s railway exports account for the Sarakhs railway,” Varg said.
The director general noted that 28,500 tons of cement were exported via the Sarakhs railway border in the sixth month (August 22 - September 22) and 16,500 tons in the seventh month (September 22 - October 22).
Varg added that the export of cement has declined over the past two months, noting that Turkmenistan has recently imposed duty on imported cement.
Over the past Iranian year (March 21, 2018 - March 21, 2019), exports, imports and transit of goods to Central Asia countries via Iran’s Sarakhs railway totaled more than 2 million tons, and 1.2 million tons of them were transited via this railway border.
