Iran discloses volume of wheat to be purchased from farmers in Kerman Province

About 265,000 tons of wheat is estimated to be purchased from farmers in the Kerman Province (southeastern Iran) in current harvesting year (began March 31, 2021), Director of Government Trading Corporation (GTC) of Iran’s branch in Kerman Province Dariush Maheri said, Trend reports citing the corporation website.

The director noted that of this, 60,000 tons will be durum wheat.

Maheri added that the purchase of wheat has been started in Kerman Province for about a week. So far, 330 tons of wheat have been purchased from farmers.

"It is expected that 145,000 tons of wheat will be purchased in the southern part of the province, and 120,000 tons in the northern part," he said.

As reported that, it is forecasted that more than 9 million tons of wheat will be purchased in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2021 through March 20, 2022). The price of 1 kg of wheat is set up 40,000 rials (about 95 cents) for the current Iranian year, the report said.

Wheat has been planted on 6.15 million hectares of land in the current Iranian year. This is an increase of 2.3 percent compared to last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021).

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.

The Government Trade Corporation of Iran purchased 8.2 million tons of wheat worth about 209 trillion rials (about $4.96 billion) from farmers in guaranteed in the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020, through March 20, 2021).
