The total trade figures between Switzerland and Azerbaijan declined in 2020 due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, Muriel Peneveyre, Ambassador of Switzerland to Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan told Trend.

Peneveyre said that the bilateral economic relations between Switzerland and Azerbaijan are good, but still have potential for further development.

She noted that the decline in the 2020 trade indicators as compared to 2019 was observed in trade with Azerbaijan, as with many other countries.

She said that Swiss imports from Azerbaijan amounted to 198 million Swiss francs in 2020, which is 8.8 percent more than 182 million in 2019.

In turn, the Swiss export to Azerbaijan equaled 45 million Swiss francs in 2020, which indicates a decrease by 57.1 percent compared to 105 million in 2019.

Thus, the overall trade volume between the two countries amounted to 243 million Swiss francs in 2020, which is a year-on-year decrease compared to 287 million in 2019.

Talking investments cooperation between the two countries, the ambassador also noted that it is a well-known fact that some large investments in the non-oil sector of the Azerbaijani economy have been made by Swiss companies, especially Holcim.
