EBRD provides loan without state guarantees to Uzbekistan for the first time

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 11

By Fakhri Vakilov – Trend:

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide a loan for the construction of a 500 kV high-voltage “Sarymay-Zhankeldi” transmission line in Uzbekistan, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.

This is the first corporate loan in the history of Uzbekistan without state guarantees for the implementation of an energy project.

A mandate letter for the loan was signed between the EBRD and the National Electricity Networks of Uzbekistan JSC, which is supervised by the Ministry of Energy.

This transmission line will provide the power output of future wind power plants in Bukhara (BASH wind farm with a capacity of 500 MW) and Navoi (Dzhankeldy wind farm with a capacity of 500 MW) regions.

It worth noting that the projects for the construction of two wind farms are being implemented by ACWA Power (Saudi Arabia) on the basis of a public-private partnership.
