European Energy Commissioner Not to Visit Caspian Countries

Azerbaijan, Baku, 11 June / Trend corr A. Badalova/ European Union's Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs does not plan to visit Caspian countries in near future.

Press service for Piebalgs said to Trend on 11 June that presently the Commissioner is visiting Japan to participate in the G8 meeting.

A range of Azerbaijani media cited EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan Alan Waddams that Piebalgs currently visiting Turkmenistan will arrive in Baku in near future.

"Piebalgs is not to visit Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan by the end of June," press service representative said.

EU has oil and gas MOUs with Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. In May, 2008, EU and Turkmenistan achieved agreement on cooperation in oil and gas field. Previously Piebalgs said that Turkmenistan may become an attractive object for European investments to develop new oil and has fields in the country.
