Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug.14 / Trend, E.Ismayilov /

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has pumped more than two billion cubic meters of gas into underground gas storage facilities in Azerbaijan so far, a source in oil and gas market said today.

The country has two underground storage facilities - Garadagh and Kalmaz. SOCAR holds expansion work at both storages. Gas is pumped into underground storage facilities for use in the autumn-winter.

"The pumping process still continues, however more than two billion cubic meters of gas have been already pumped into gas storage facilities," the source said.

He said 2.5 billion cubic meters of gas will be pumped into underground gas storage facilities in 2010 compared to planned 3 billion cubic meters. It is due to the fact that SOCAR fails to conduct pumping of the amounts planned for this year. "But if the company has time, these figures will be brought up to three billion cubic meters," the source said.

In 2009, SOCAR pumped into the country's underground gas storage facilities about two billion cubic meters as compared to 1.4 billion cubic meters in 2008.

SOCAR reported that about 507.7 millions of cubic meters of gas were pumped into Garadagh underground and 794.9 millions of cubic meters - Kalmaz in 2009.
