Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, July 27 / Trend H.Hasanov /

Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov has received today EU Special Representative for Central Asia and Georgia Pierre Morel, the Turkmen government reported.

Morel noted that the EU ardently welcomed the Turkmen leader's constructive prudent policy and important international initiatives aimed fostering wide international cooperation, diversifying gas export routes and facilitating stable and reliable transit of energy to key markets on the Eurasian continent that would directly contribute to addressing challenges to global energy security.

In turn, Berdimuhammedov said Turkmenistan was keenly interested in deepening a long-term fruitful dialogue with the European Union, full cooperation with which was a strategic objective of the foreign policy of the Turkmen state, its key priority.

A mutual interest in cooperation in this critical area " is linked with the increasing demands for energy in Europe, and the position of Turkmenistan, which confidently implements a strategy on creation of a multi-variant system to export its energy resources to the world
markets."

Ashgabat is agreed to begin detailed negotiations on the construction of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline (via the Caspian seabed between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan).
