Electricity generation in Turkey decreased by 5.2 per cent in the first quarter of 2013 compared to the same period in 2012, amounting to 58.8 billion kWh, the Turkish Electricity Transmission Company (TEIAS) said in a report posted on its website on Tuesday.
19.8 billion kWh of electric power was produced in March, 3.9 per cent less than in the same month last year.
Turkey imported 1.9 billion kWh of electricity in the first quarter of 2013 which is 60.7 per cent more than during January-March 2012.
In March 2013, Turkey imported 572.6 million kWh of electric power, increasing by 15 per compared to the same period of 2012.
According to the report, electricity consumption dropped by 1.4 per cent in March 2013 compared to February 2012, reaching 18.8 billion kWh. Electricity consumption fell by 2.4 per cent in January-March 2013 compared to the same period of 2012, amounting to 60.5 billion kWh.
Electric power exports from Turkey constituted 185 million kWh in the first of quarter of the current year, reducing by 84 percent.
