SOCAR imports almost 1 bcm of gas

Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR imported 970 million cubic meters of gas in January-July 2017, says an article by Rahman Gurbanov, SOCAR vice-president for oil and gas transportation and gas facilities, published in a special issue of the Iki Sahil newspaper.

According to Gurbanov, SOCAR obtained 1.96 billion cubic meters of associated gas from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) block and bought 1.6 billion cubic meters from the Shah Deniz field in the mentioned period.

“In 2016, SOCAR sold 11 billion cubic meters of gas; 9.7 billion cubic meters were sold in the domestic market, some 4.3 billion cubic meters of which were sold to Azerenerji JSC, 3.1 billion cubic meters – to the population, 2.3 billion cubic meters – to other participants of the market. Gas export actually stood at 1.3 billion cubic meters,” says the article.

SOCAR produced 3.46 billion cubic meters of gas at Azerbaijan’s offshore and onshore fields in January-July 2017, as compared to 3.69 billion cubic meters in the same period of 2016.

The company produced 6.27 billion cubic meters of gas at Azerbaijan’s offshore and onshore fields in 2016, as compared to 6.87 billion cubic meters in 2015. Along with SOCAR, foreign companies also produce gas in Azerbaijan. In total, 29.37 billion cubic meters of gas were produced in Azerbaijan in 2016, as compared to 29.05 billion cubic meters in 2015.
