Kazakhstan's revenues from gas exports increase by quarter

Gas production in Kazakhstan reached 37.3 billion cubic meters according to the results of 8 months of 2018, Energyprom.kz reported.

This is 5.8 percent more than a year earlier. Three key gas producing regions of the country produced more than 90 percent of the gas: Atyrau region — 15.6 billion cubic meters (a 14.6 percent increase year-over-year), West Kazakhstan region — 13.8 billion cubic meters (as a year earlier), and Aktobe region — 4.6 billion cubic meters, (a 2.3 percent increase in a year).

Exports of natural gas amounted to 15 billion cubic meters in 7 months, which is 1.7 percent more than in the same period of 2017. However, in monetary terms the exports reached $1.03 billion – as many as 25.3 percent more than a year ago.

Kazakh gas was mainly exported to China (35.4 percent and $363.7 million) and Ukraine (28.6 percent and $293.5 million). It is worth noting that the exports to China in 7 months was over 8 times more than a year earlier.

For Kazakhtan’s population, the price of gas increased by 8.6 percent in a year (January-August 2018 compared to the same period in 2017), and for liquefied gas — by 5.7 percent.
