The number of oil and gas wells drilled in the Gachsaran County of Iran has increased by 72 percent, Hoshang Seydali, managing director of Gachsaran Oil and Gas Production Company (GOGPC), told IRNA, Trend reports.
According to Seydali, 583 production and injection wells were drilled after the Islamic Revolution.
Seydali added that there are currently 813 production and injection wells in Gachsaran.
He said GOGPC is the second largest crude oil producer at the southern oil fields.
GOGPC has 16 operating oil reservoirs and employs 7,000 people.
Oil extraction in Gachsaran began in 1940.
