Israel can learn a lot from Azerbaijan's vast knowledge in mineral extraction, geology and other related domains, Ambassador of Israel to Azerbaijan Dan Stav told Trend.

The envoy said that Israel has great interest to expand the cooperation in the energy sector.

“SOCAR will be highly welcomed to participate in gas exploration in Israel in the blocks that have not yet been explored,” Stav stressed.

Further, he noted that cooperation with the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University can be very beneficial for Israel.

‘As for a proper management of a sovereign fund for the earnings from the gas field, the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan SOFAZ seems to be an excellent example,” the ambassador noted.

Speaking of the Southern Gas Corridor, Stav said it is a very interesting option as the possibility to export gas to the EU market is very important.

The Southern Gas Corridor is one of the priority projects for the EU and envisages the transportation of 10 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas from the Caspian region through Georgia and Turkey to Europe.

The launching ceremony of the first stage of the Southern Gas Corridor was held in Baku on May 29, 2018, while opening ceremony of TANAP was held on June 12, 2018 in the Turkish city of Eskisehir.

The gas from the Azerbaijani Shah Deniz field has already gone through the first segment of the Southern Gas Corridor - from the Sangachal terminal to the expanded South Caucasus Pipeline.

According to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, trade turnover with Israel in 2018 amounted to $1.3 million.

As compared to the last year, trade turnover between the countries increased by 49.7 percent, while the exports of Azerbaijani products increased more than two times.
