BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr.7

By Leman Zeynalova - Trend:

Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR has started to ship polyolefins produced by Socar Polymer to the Russian market by rail for the first time in 2021, Trend reports with reference to Argusmedia.

“Shipments of Socar Polymer polypropylene and polyethylene to Russia began in January and February, respectively. In total, 2,600 tons of polypropylene and 2,300 tons of polyethylene were shipped from Sumgait station (Azerbaijan) to Noginsk (Moscow region) in the first quarter of 2021,” the message says.

Russia accounts for 40 percent of polyolefins export from Azerbaijan. SOCAR also exports polymers to Turkey, China and Kazakhstan.

SOCAR Polymer has become the first large-scale project in the petrochemical industry of Azerbaijan over the past 40 years. The company, which aims to accelerate the development of the chemical industry in the country, was founded in 2013.

The company's production facilities consist of two plants for the production of polypropylene and high-density polyethylene, located on the territory of the Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park.

The plants were commissioned in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

The successful results of this project are expected to create multiplier effects in many important sectors of the Azerbaijani industry and create numerous jobs.
