BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 7. Iran can supply gas to industrial plants and export it by optimizing gas consumption, Iranian Deputy Oil Minister and CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Majid Chegeni said, Trend reports citing Shana News Agency.

“Currently, 530 million cubic meters of gas are consumed by residential buildings and commercial facilities per day, which accounts for 65 percent of total gas consumption in the country,” Chegeni said.

The deputy minister added that gas consumption in Iran is much higher than the international norm. However, it can be used in a more profitable way.

As reported, the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) is preparing a 4-year project to optimize gas consumption in the country. About $4 billion is needed for the optimization of gas consumption and smartening of the gas supply in Iran.

Overall, the gas consumption in Iran amounted to 109 billion cubic meters within the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2022).

Of this, 39.3 billion cubic meters of gas were consumed by residential buildings and small industrial facilities, 26.9 billion cubic meters - by Iran's large industrial facilities (petrochemical plants, steel plants and other plants), and 43.4 billion cubic meters - by Iran’s thermal power plants.

Iran's gas production is currently around 1 billion cubic meters per day.
