bp acquires data about deep-lying gas reservoirs at ACG

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 12. bp has completed drilling of the ACG data well and acquired data about the deep-lying gas reservoirs beneath the currently producing oil field, bp Azerbaijan told Trend.

“We completed an extensive logging program and installed gauges to measure pressure data. Analysis of the new data acquired from the well is ongoing and will increase the structural understanding of the area. We are currently working on a development concept that targets first gas in 2024 in support of Azerbaijan’s plans,” said the company.

The well was spudded in early 2023. The A22z well was drilled from the Chirag platform as a sidetrack from the existing A22 injector well. It targeted to reach deep gas reservoirs in the south flank location of the structure. It was planned to drill the well to a total depth of around 4,500 metres.

ACG produced 20.4 million tons of oil as of 2022, according to Azerbaijan's energy ministry.

BP Exploration (Caspian Sea) Limited is the operator on behalf of contractors under the ACG Production Sharing Agreement.

The participating interests in ACG are as follows: bp (30.37%), SOCAR (25%), MOL (9.57%), INPEX (9.31%), Equinor (7.27%), ExxonMobil (6.79%), TPAO (5.73%), ITOCHU (3.65%), ONGC Videsh (2.31%).
