BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 26. In the second quarter, Norway’s Equinor achieved a total equity production of 1,994 mboe per day, slightly surpassing the 1,984 mboe per day from the same quarter in 2022, Trend reports.
The company says this increase was facilitated by the expanded capacity of Johan Sverdrup, now producing 755,000 boe per day, as well as the robust liquids production from the Peregrino field in Brazil.
However, there were some mitigating factors. Planned maintenance and the temporary shutdown of Hammerfest LNG and fields connected to the third-party operated Nyhamna gas process facility resulted in a reduction in gas production on the NCS.
On the renewable energy front, Equinor made strides in power production from renewable sources. They generated 345 GWh in the quarter, compared to 325 GWh in the same quarter last year. The growth was primarily driven by production from the floating wind farm Hywind Tampen on the NCS and the establishment of new solar plants in Poland. Including gas-to-power production in the UK, their total power production for the quarter reached 947 GWh.
During the quarter, Equinor made significant advancements in its project portfolio. It made the final investment decision for the BM-C-33 project in Brazil, signaling a major step forward for the venture. Additionally, the company obtained approval for the development of the subsea tie-back fields Irpa and Verdande on the NCS, enhancing their offshore operations.
The company's exploration efforts were fruitful, with the completion of 7 offshore exploration wells, out of which 3 proved to be commercially viable discoveries. Furthermore, at the end of the quarter, it had 10 wells still in progress, demonstrating commitment to further exploration and potential discoveries.
