BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 12

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

About 6.9 million checks worth 2.02 quadrillion rials (about $48.2 billion) were exchanged in Iran in the 5th month of the current Iranian year (July 23 through August 22, 2021), Trend reports citing the Central Bank of Iran (CBI).

According to the statistics, the exchanged checks increased by 13.4 percent in terms of number and by 4.8 percent in terms of value compared to the 4th month of the current Iranian year (June 22 through July 22, 2021).

"The checks exchanged in the 5th month were mainly registered in Iran’s Tehran Province (30.6 percent in terms of number, 50.4 percent in terms of value), Isfahan Province (11 percent in terms of number, 7.1 percent in terms of value), Razavi Khorasan Province (7.2 percent in terms of number, 5.3 percent in terms of value)," the statistics said.

According to the statistics, 6.2 million checks worth 1.72 quadrillion rials (about $41 billion) were received in Iran in the 5th month. This is an increase of 11.5 percent in terms of number and 1.3 percent in terms of value compared to the 4th month.

The CBI noted that about 742,000 checks worth 299 trillion rials (about $7.12 billion) were returned in the 5th month.

The returned checks increased by 32.4 percent in terms of number and by 30.8 percent in terms of value compared to the 4th month.

The reason for the return of checks is the lack of available funds or a deficit. Thus, 720,000 checks worth 290 trillion rials (about $6.9 billion) were returned in Iran for these reasons in the 5th month.

"The checks 97.1 percent in terms of number and 97 in terms of value were returned due to lack of available funds or deficit," the statistics said.
