A tender for the construction of the second telecommunication satellite of Azerbaijan will be announced in January 2014, Azerbaijani Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov told journalists on Dec.6.
All talks and researches on Azerbaijan's second satellite program have already been completed. A feasibility study for the project has also been prepared, Abbasov said.
"The tender will be announced among a small number of producers," the minister said.
The first telecommunications satellite of Azerbaijan Azerspace/Africasat-1a was launched in February 2013. The satellite is designed to provide digital television, data transmission, creation of multiservice networks VSAT and ensure government communications. The service zone of Azerspace/Africasat-1a includes Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia, Middle East and Africa.
