US IDC company is closely following the development and start of implementation of the Smart City project within Azerbaijan's National Action Plan for 2020-2022, Oleg Sek, a consultant of the company in the CIS region, told Trend.

According to Sek, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev instructed to pay special attention to the use of ‘smart’ urban technologies in Karabakh.

"The introduction of technologies that meet international standards requires the creation of the necessary infrastructure, including 5G, modern data centers, communication channels," he added.

IDC advises state bodies at both the central and municipal levels in the CIS countries on the creation and implementation of the ‘smart cities’ strategy. The available analytical tools and the experience of analysts from the Government Insights division allow city administrations to make management decisions based on the world's best practices, the company’s representative further said.

"Given the relevance of the issue of the development of smart cities in Azerbaijan, IDC considers it necessary to organize an international forum dedicated to the development of smart cities, invite world experts and major technology vendors and discuss the possibility of applying the best world practices in Azerbaijan as a whole, and in the Karabakh region in particular," concluded Sek.
