New railway vehicles put into operation in Iran

As many as 50 freight wagons and locomotives worth 690 billion rials (about $16.4 million) were commissioned today (June 26), Trend reports citing Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran.

According to the report, 49 new freight wagons were manufactured by Wagon Pars and Wagon Kowsar Company, and 1 locomotive was repaired by MAPNA Group.

“In total, 259 passenger and freight wagons and locomotives worth 4.94 trillion rials (about $117 million) were commissioned in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020),” the report said.

The commissioning of this volume of railway vehicles shows 48 percent increase compared to the same period last Iranian year, the report added.

Some 56 railway vehicles worth 1.25 trillion rials (about $29.7 million) were put into operation in the first month of the current Iranian year (March 20-April 19).

In addition, 88 vehicles worth 1.44 trillion rials (about $34.2 million) were commissioned in the second month (April 20 - May 20, 2020).

On June 30, 65 locomotives, freight and passenger wagons worth 1.56 trillion rials (about $37.1 million) were commissioned.
