Kazakh Ministry addresses concerns of food prices rising

Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan Republic issued clarifications regarding public concerns about increase in prices for basic food products included in group of socially significant foodstuff, Trend reports via ministry press service.

“Kazakhstan almost completely provides itself with foodstuffs. There are large reserves for all socially significant food products, including import-depended products as sugar, chicken meat, cottage cheese. Stabilization Funds store 27,400 tons of socially significant foodstuffs, including: flour, sugar, pasta, rice, etc. Forward contracts have already been concluded for supplying vegetable products," said the ministry.

"Stabilization funds store 27,400 tons of significant food products including flour – 11,500 tons, sugar – 3,800 tons, pasta – 1,500 tons, rice – 800 tons and etc. as of 24 February, 2022. Forward contracts were concluded for supplying about 124,500 tons of significant food products, including supplying of potatoes – 45,700 tons, onions – 12,500 tons, carrots – 13,200 tons, etc.," said the ministry.

The ministry said situation for each region in terms of goods, is assessed weekly.

"The Ministry of Agriculture systematically works to saturate the domestic market with domestically produced goods to ensure the physical and price affordability of the main types of foodstuffs,” said the ministry.
