BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 1. Kazakhstan and Lithuania are working on launching direct air flights between the two nations with the goal to boost tourism cooperation between the two nations, Trend reports, citing the press service of the Ministry of Culture and Sport of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The issue of visa-free travel to Lithuania for Kazakh nationals was also discussed between Yerzhan Yerkinbayev, Vice Minister of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan, and the Vice Minister of Economy and Innovations of Lithuania Vincas Jurgutis.

The officials of Kazakhstan and Lithuania agreed that cooperation in the field of tourism constitutes a priority area for both countries.

The parties also plan to hold Lithuanian Tourism Days in the Shymbulak resort, Almaty, and Kazakhstan Tourism Days in Vilnius.

The tourism sector in Kazakhstan and Lithuania improved significantly after the COVID-19 restrictions were eased. Lithuania recorded an increase in tourist inflow by 16 percent in 2021, compared to 2020. In total, 2.5 million tourists visited Lithuania in 2021. The situation improved further in 2022 when 3.49 people visited the country.

The volume of incoming tourists to Kazakhstan reached 4.7 million, which is nearly a threefold increase compared to 2021.
