ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 19. Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China (XUAR) amounted to $8.5 billion from January through June 2023, said President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayevduring a meeting with the secretary of the XUAR Party Committee, Ma Xingrui, Trend reports.
As Tokayev noted, trade turnover with the region increased by 87 percent compared to the same period last year.
"The share of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region exceeds 40 percent of the total trade volume between Kazakhstan and China," Tokayev said.
Tokayev highly appreciated the results of Kazakhstan’s interaction with the region in many areas, including trade, industry, transport, logistics, agriculture, and tourism.
"Kazakhstan is ready to increase the supply of various products to your region. We are talking about metallurgical, petrochemical, engineering, food products, and construction materials. As for the potential for cooperation in the agri-food sector, we believe that there remains great potential here, and Kazakhstan could become a stable supplier of environmentally friendly agricultural products to the Chinese market," he added.
In 2022, Kazakhstan’s trade turnover with China amounted to $24.1 billion, which is 34.1 percent more than a year earlier.
Exports from Kazakhstan increased over the year by 34.7 percent, to $13.2 billion. The share of Kazakhstan's exports to China accounted for a significant 15.6 percent of the country's total trade turnover.
Imports from China to Kazakhstan grew by 33.5 percent over the year, to $11 billion. China's share in the structure of imports from the Republic of Kazakhstan amounted to 21.9 percent.
