ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 21. Growth in rail transit traffic through Kazakhstan increased by 19 percent from January through October 2023, said the Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan Marat Karabayev during a government meeting, Trend reports.
The volume of cargo transportation by rail amounted to 200 million tons, which is 3 percent more than the same period last year. At the same time, the growth in export transportation amounted to 8.5 percent (70.7 million tons).
As the minister noted, as part of the development of the country’s transport and logistics potential, special attention is paid to transit transportation.
Container traffic in 2022 increased by 29 percent compared to the previous year. In recent years, the volume of transit cargo from China to Europe and neighboring countries via Kazakhstan has increased significantly.
In addition, the minister informed members of the government of plans for the development of the industry.
Thus, the plans include work to modernize and increase the capacity of border crossing points at the railway crossing, the overhaul and construction of new and second tracks, the provision of locomotives and freight cars, the improvement of tariff policy, and the renewal of railroad cars for passenger transportation.
Moreover, loading on the Kazakhstan Railways network (KTZ, national company) amounted to 213.8 million tons from January through October 2023, which is 2.1 tons higher than in the same period last year.
Over 138 million tons were transported by rail throughout the republic. Exports increased by 7.1 percent to 75.7 million tons.
During the reporting period, over 87.3 million tons of coal were loaded. Including within the republic, 61.2 million tons Operating cargo turnover for 10 months of this year increased by 7.2 percent and amounted to 224.2 billion t-km.
