Industrial production by SMEs in Kyrgyzstan grows

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, September 6. The value of industrial production by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Kyrgyzstan exceeded 50 billion soms ($566 million) from January through June 2023, which is nearly 29 percent higher than in the same period in 2022, Trend reports.

Data from the State Committee on Statistics of Kyrgyzstan shows that the wholesale and retail trade, as well as vehicle and motorcycle repair value, by SMEs amounted to 338 billion soms ($3.8 million) during the period under review, which is a 19.5 percent increase compared to the corresponding period in 2022.

Furthermore, almost 93 percent of the total trade turnover in the country fell on SMEs, with the majority of them being individual entrepreneurs.

During the period under review, there were approximately 14,000 small and medium-sized enterprises operating in the territory of Kyrgyzstan, with nearly 95 percent of them being small enterprises. About 64 percent of these active small enterprises were located in the city of Bishkek. These enterprises employed around 86,000 people.

Approximately 450,000 individual entrepreneurs were conducting business activities in Kyrgyzstan as of July 1, 2023.
