Tajik border guards kill eight Afghani drug smugglers.
Tajikistan's border guards killed Afghanistan's eight armed drug smugglers at the border with Afghanistan. Four criminals managed to escape, Tajikistan's law enforcement authorities told Itar-Tass on Thursday.
The incident happened on July 23, the source said, but as the operation continued, the information was considered closed.
The drug smugglers had four automatic guns, two grenade-guns, and about 50 kilograms of drugs.
Afghanistan's Foreign Minister Zalmai Rassoul told a news conference in Dushanbe on Thursday that "Afghanistan's authorities will conduct their own investigation into the incident."
