BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 3. The possibility of exporting fresh and processed fruits and vegetables, locally produced sugar from sugar beets, iodized salt, and Tajik textile and sewing products to the Moldovan market was discussed following the fourth meeting of the intergovernmental Tajik-Moldovan Commission on economic, trade and scientific and technical cooperation on April 3 in Dushanbe, Trend reports via Tajik media.
Members of the Commission, as well as heads and responsible employees of sectoral ministries and departments of the two countries, take part in the meeting.
The sides reviewed the current state and volumes of mutual trade, noting the existing potential necessary for the further development of bilateral cooperation in various areas of the economy.
The participants emphasized the necessity of intensifying, strengthening and diversifying trade and economic relations between the two countries, seeing as today’s level of trade turnover between Tajikistan and Moldova does not meet the potential opportunities of both countries.
Tajikistan and Moldova also discussed creating joint ventures for processing fruits and vegetables and producing vegetable oil.
Furthermore, the possibility of cooperation between specialized agencies in such areas as electric power, oil, gas, and water production through the exchange of experience was also considered.
According to the Statistical Agency under the President of Tajikistan, the trade turnover between Tajikistan and Moldova totaled about $200,000 in 2022, which is $2.6 million less than in 2021. The trade turnover in the reporting period consisted only of imports.
