BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 19. Tajikistan has plans to start production of electric cars, Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan Zavqi Zavqizoda said, Trend reports with reference to the ministry.
He made the remark within the frame of a video conference dedicated to cooperation between China and Central Asia, with the participation of foreign ministers. The meeting’s main objective was to find opportunities to stimulate bilateral and multilateral cooperation, increase foreign trade turnover, attract capital, and create joint ventures.
At the meeting, Zavqizoda also presented concrete proposals on the development of cooperation in the areas of trade, economy, digital trade, investment, development of transport and logistics, construction of roads and railways.
Furthermore, the sides also discussed the implementation of projects in the field of green economy and digital economy, such as creation of technology parks, introduction of digital technologies, construction of hydroelectric power plants and introduction of the electronic commerce system.
According to the ministry, Tajikistan attaches particular significance to strengthening multifaceted cooperation with China and the countries of Central Asia.
In conclusion of the meeting, representatives of the participating countries assured they are going to further expand mutually beneficial cooperation and implement the projects mentioned above.
Tajikistan significantly increased the imports of electric cars in 2022. The country imported 767 electric cars, which is an increase of more than 16 times or 720 cars, compared to 47 cars in 2021.
One of the reasons for the growth in imports of electric cars in the country is the implementation of the Development of Electric Transport in Tajikistan for 2023-2027 Program. One of the objectives of the program is to switch to electric transport and assist in the prevention of climate change.
