BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 23. The average prices for milk and eggs in Tajikistan have registered a decrease as of May 8, compared to the prices registered on May 1, Trend reports.
As outlined by the World Food Programme (WFP), average price for a liter of milk in the retail markets of Tajikistan dropped by 2 percent in the reported week, amounting to 6.6 somoni ($0.6). When compared to the same period of 2022, the price rose by 18 percent.
Notably, the price for a liter of milk in Tajikistan’s capital Dushanbe remained unchanged at 8 somoni ($0.7) compared to the preceding week. The steepest decline of 17 percent was registered in Qubodiyon town of Khalton region – 5 somoni ($0.4) per a liter.
The average price for 10 pieces of eggs in the retail market of Tajikistan, made up 14.4 somoni ($1.32), witnessing a decline of 4 percent over the preceding week, while a year-on-year growth reached 38 percent.
The price for 10 pieces of eggs in Dushanbe dropped by 7 percent, amounting to 13 somoni ($1.19). The largest fall in prices was recorded in Khujand city – 17 percent and 13 somoni ($1.19) for 10 eggs.
WFP Tajikistan, in collaboration with the Neksigol Mushovir advisory organization, has been engaged in the surveillance of commodity prices in markets throughout the country.
The collection of price data is facilitated by a network of field enumerators, who conduct interviews with multiple traders for each commodity and record the average prices.
